According to Wikipedia and the Victorian "language of flowers", different colored roses each have their own symbolic meaning. Be careful which color rose you send to your loved one.

* Red: love
* Pink: grace, gentle feelings of love
* Dark Pink: gratitude
* Light Pink: admiration, sympathy
* White: innocence, purity, secrecy, friendship, reverence and humility.
* Yellow: Yellow roses generally mean dying love or platonic love. In German-speaking countries, however, they can mean jealousy and infidelity.
* Yellow with red tips: Friendship, falling in love
* Orange: passion
* Burgundy: beauty
* Blue: mystery
* Green: calm
* Black: slavish devotion (as a true black rose is impossible to produce)
* Purple: protection (paternal/maternal love)

The Yellow Rose of Texas...

The song is based on a Texas legend from the days of the Texas War of Independence. According to the legend, a free African American woman named Emily D. West, seized by Mexican forces during the looting of Galveston, seduced General Antonio López de Santa Anna, President of Mexico and commander of the Mexican forces. The legend credits her supposed seduction with lowering the guard of the Mexican army and facilitating the Texan victory in the battle of San Jacinto waged in 1836 near present-day Houston. Santa Anna's opponent was General Sam Houston, who won the battle literally in minutes, and with almost no casualties.

The Yellow Rose of Texas is a hybrid rose cultivar which is naturalized at abandoned house sites through the state of Texas and is found as a feral rose so often along the Oregon Trail that it is also called the Oregon Trail Rose. It is actually Harison's Yellow, which originated as a chance hybrid seedling of Rosa foetida that bloomed for the first time at the suburban villa of George F. Harison, attorney, between 8th and 9th Avenues on 32nd Street, north of New York City. The site of Harison's villa is now just south of the present General Post Office. The nurseryman William Prince of Long Island took cuttings and marketed the rose in 1830.

Hi Fran,
Awesome colors and details on this superb rose! Excellent use of light. The leaves on the left corner are so well returned. Very good DOF and POV. I like this image very much! Annie

Hey there
Very special, great idea and well composed!

Beautiful over-blown rose - very pretty Fran.
Seeing the rose is 'facing' the right, I would have cropped off the greenery on the left and left more space on the right - it seems to even up the photo. It's a tip I try to use.
Cheers
Janice

Boujour Fran
Your skills in macro photography just keep improving.This
presentation as a 3D effect, really well done. Sharpness is
impeccable, wonder if you are doing manual focus now?
Also I see the flash went off but it acts more like a fill-in light
that is great. Excellente présentation!

Paul
