Close your eyes while you sit in a rocker on the front porch. Imagine the graceful flight of a snowy egret as it skims the still waters of a remote bayou. Imagine the sound of nothing, the sweet smell of the fresh air, see the gentle breeze swaying the elegant Spanish moss in the cypress trees. At night you might hear the croak of a frog or alligator, all music to the ears of the people living on the bayou. Couple all of this with hard work but easy living not far from either Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

The town where this house is located is Manchac, which is by Lake Maurepas. Lake Maurepas is a brackish water lake in southeastern Louisiana. It connects with Lake Pontchartrain via the Pass Manchac, a narrow strip of water. The town of Manchac, Louisiana is along the eastern edge of the lake at Pass Manchac.

The lake is named for Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux, comte de Maurepas, a French statesman.

Thanks for dropping by...have a great day of photo hunting.

Hi Fran, still a lot of evidence of the effects of Katrina with fallen trees and the moss a bit sparse. Good perspectives and colour and very good detail. TFS,
David

That is very close to the water!! I'd love to hear the frogs, but I'm not sure about the alligators. How about the mosquitos?
Thanks Fran for sharing this part of the South, it is very interesting seeing where other people live. Was this area save in the Katrina era?
Janice

Hi Franny
This is a lovely water-landscape and a very well composed presentation!
Rich colours and fine deatails, and the cabin an effective focal point... the sky is very attractive!
Greetings,

John

Hi Fran
I think you can still see the effects of Katrina with the downed tree. The way of life on the bayou in the aquatic environment must be something to experience. Just wondering about the waste water?
Good shot and thank you for showing us a very different way of life with this well composed and well detailed presentation.

Hello Fran,

Hello Fran,
What a picturesque scenery!
Something from a movie, an alligator sunning on the wooden pier would be perfect, hahaha...
A pleasant composition, a good documentary of the place!
Greetings,
Pablo -
