Night at the Fights I

I've never been to a professional boxing match before, but we went with a friend who treated us to ringside seats to root for her boyfriend, who was later part of the Main Event. What I remember about the guy in this shot was that he is forty years old, was to fight a much younger man, but of all the fighters that night he looked like he was truly enjoying what he was doing.

His wife was sitting at the table next to us, and here he was sending her some reassurance before the first round.

PP work--a slight rotation to right the corner of the ring, cropped out the rest of the activity in the ring as well as the referee just outside the ring. I did hate to lose the overhead lights at the top left with that crop, though. Raised midtones(20); did some red-eye work; and resized and sharpened.

Critiques [Translate]

Hi Karen. The flash asssisted exposure here is perfect and for your first time at a pro fight you must (and should) be proud of this capture. You have caught a great pose and a great expression. The highlights are very well controlled and the subject is cleanly picked out from the background. Only one nit-pik and this is in regards to the light area above the subject's head. As you had been forced to remove a few overhead lights anyway, I think it worthwhile to lose the light area also by a simple crop to the square format. Excellent image.

Good exposure. Even the sweat is caught along with the face expression. It tells a story and is well done.

photo is (to me) very good but I am not an expert in this field

The man here is a fountain of self awareness and already looks as if he has victory in his pocket:-) ( did the opponent not look the same at the start? )

For me.. I would never go to a boxing match. not to ice skate hocky.. rugby or what ever ..I just don't like sports where people have so much(sweaty) body contact.
don't worry, my shrink says I am normal, as long as I pay my fee in time to him

I have never been to a boxing match either Karen but way back in my distant past I participated as part of the school sports curriculum. Excellent image, good colour and fine PP work. Crisp and clear. The question must be asked, how did he go? TFS,

Surprised indeed to see a photo from the ring signed by you . And I am not saying that negatively. I love the story and notes written here and to your next post. Yep , Not an easy thing to do. But he sure did look happy and proud to be there. Reminds me the story of the last ROCKY movie ., which honestly I loved , unlike all the preceeding ones.

You captured very well his emotions. The colors and the light control are excellent too.
