Night at the Fights II

OK, folks, first a disclaimer, if I may. Just in case I am offending anyone with strong feelings against this kind of "sport" by posting these shots of a professional boxing match, I apologize to you. I am not intending to promote the sport; I would not on a normal basis seek this form of entertainment. I am not intending to exploit anyone. These men, for whatever reason--money, power, or glory--step into the ring willingly. I will not post pictures of the faces of their wives or girlfriends as they watch their men taking punches. There was also an amateur event that night, with young olympic hopefuls trying to score points toward their olympic trials. They fought with protective headgear and still walked away bloody. You won't see those shots from me. Nor will you see shots from the two fights that were stopped to save the life of the losing boxer. (By the way, when that happened, the crowd was yelling, "Save him!"--I am happy to report.)

This shot doesn't have a lot of action, and I was fortunate to catch the boxer looking directly at me. I would think that there must be something to come over a man, to be able to transform himself from the person in the previous image, reassuring his loving wife, to the one who must block out all outside images to concentrate on his opponent, and to beat him (in both senses of the word). I think this image captures that transformation.

Upon further reflection, I think that this transformation can happen in business and other fields as well; this sport might be a visual metaphor for what many of us face on a daily basis in our own worlds. Maybe a sad commentary . . .

Very nice 'capture' nice colors and details. love the choice in framing and your pov. Don't know how may people in TL love boxing sports.. but I would say the same for a ballet-dancer!

Hi Karen,

I think you have done a great job covering key moments of strong emotions of the boxer. Very nice colors, sharpness and exposure.

Hi Karen,
I'm with you on the sport, never watch it myself and never would...I'm not into watching people try to kill each other for fun or intertainment...But your photo is excellent, you have indeed caught him in a moment and you can see the determination on his face....By the way even though its a shot about boxing.the color and sharpness are excellent..TFS
