This beautiful fish is one of 4 venustus in our big aquarium they are about half grown and are between 5 and 6 inches long. As this guy matures, his face will turn a brillant blue!
A very intelligent fish will always try to get your attention if not chasing some fish in the tank.Space is of outmost importance for this fish : it needs room for spawning, a relatively large territory (if you are to avoid the aggression) and it gets quite big by African cichlid standards. It may eat the soft leaves of plants and it digs a lot. A way to minimize the risk of collapsing rock piles it to use a bottom layer of small rocks, then add the sand and on top of this you may add the rocks. The coloration of the male ranges from solid gold with a blue face to gold with dark brown spots. (as seen here) When kept with fish of the same genus (e.g. Nimbochromis livinstoni) they keep a permanent breeding coloration. They spawn near rocks in pits.

Pretty neat aquarium shot
Hi Randy,
I guess, it is very difficult to catch fishes even with Camera. I tried a couple of times, but, failed horribly :) But, after viewing this, I have decided to give one more try. Nice composition. TFS.
Kiran.
You are excellent at capturing aquarium fihes. I have tried many times, including at this very aquarium, and have never been successful at avoiding motion distortion due to low lighting.
bonjour Randy
trés belle photo, la couleur dorée du poisson est magnifique . Bravo
