A tale of three bridges
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I took this photo while taking a harbor cruise in Charleston yesterday. We went under these bridges; all of which connect the same area. The farthest bridge is the oldest. It cost $6 million dollars and 21 lives in 1928. The middle bridge cost $18 million and 2 lives in 1966. The new bridge, closest, has cost $600 million and 1 life. The individual who died had on a safety harness, which wasn't clipped to the bridge, and a life jacket, which wasn't tied. Sad to say, but a good example of Darwinism! The new bridge is set to open in the fall. It is really beautiful; I will post more photos of it soon. The old bridges will be torn down within 6 months of opening the new one; the metal will be used for offshore reef habitat.
I tried desaturating this photo but I liked the blue sky better. |
