Prior to joining TL I hadn’t heard of the “blue hour.” I’ve seen some beautiful and amazing photos here that were taken during that magic hour of light. After a long walk on the beach, my wife and I dragged out our sand chairs to watch the early evening activities as darkness ascended. I took my Coolpix 4300 to play with just in case we saw something interesting.

The lights of the buildings were becoming more prominent, so I thought I’d try to get a shot up the beach and capture them in the semi-dark skies. I took several at different exposure levels and this one surprised me by the amount of blue it produced. It was shot underexposed at -1.0 EV. What surprised me even more was that it turned out fairly sharp for a handheld shot.

PP work:
Rotate to level the horizon.
Crop
+Contrast
Resize
Sharpen

Thanks for viewing and have a great Sunday.

Hi Werner

i would suggest a tripod next time and longer exposures. that would make most of the blue hour effect especially on the lights, and not to underexpose.
good experiment for a start.

Hi Werner

Not bad at all. Good pp work to enhance the blue hour, with the amber lighting in the condos, providing the necessary color contrast. Excellent sharpness & framing. Tfs!

Hi Werner...I like the blue cast and the light on the rooftop..nice details and composition.

Roger

Very beautiful and well composed, Werner. Blue hour is always wonderful.
Next time, use a minor aperture of the diaphragm. Surely you will get more details. But don´t forget the tripod :o)
Congratulations and thanks for sharing, my friend.

Regards,
Bruno
