[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I thought about what to post for the “Old Age” theme for a few days. I have photos of old people and old things, but always came back to this shot. Some will think this is not a suitable entry, and I can take a few bumps on the head if they critique me poorly because of that.

Being on the cusp of “old age” myself, I see it more and more as a matter of perspective. What I see in this photo is probably much different than those younger than myself. What I see, in a sort of bittersweet way, is an important part of my life that has passed by all too quickly. Sure, a simple shot of a man indulging (I can tell by his body language, I think) with some playtime at the beach. What I see is a young girl who most certainly thinks of her dad as “old.” When her dad looks at me, he probably sees me as “old.” When I look at my father in-law (the last remaining senior in my family), I see him as “old.” And so on it goes.

So, yes, when I look at this, I feel pretty darned old. Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, my friends, remember it only comes around once.

I shot this from a balcony; it wouldn’t look the same from ground level. My software doesn’t do vignetting, but I think it would work well with this one.

Thanks for taking a look, and more importantly, enjoy your weekend!

Hi Werner

A good explanatory note & another good use of a wide angled, panoramic format. Excellent pastel colors & a nice contemplative mood, with good sharpness & downward pov. I'd be tempted to crop tighter, from both the top & bottom. Tfs!

Age is like many things - it all depends how you look at it eg when a child I thought 30 was old I like the saying that you are as old as you feel - this includes whether you have a zest for life and keep interested. Thought provoking shot and note. I have done a workshio and hope you like
warm regards
David
