This is an old firetower in Bays Mountain Park where I enjoy hiking. There's a story here. 1st, this is one straight-up hill for an old duffer like me! I had to rest for a day or two afterwards.

There were 7 golden eagles just as I got there but before I could get my tripod set up for good pics, they split. They saw me coming from several hundred yards and they 'told' each other, believe me.

It is a VERY high tower and as I climbed to the top, the thunderstorms began rumbling precluding me taking very many pics from there. I got a couple but was extremely nervous as a lightning storm doesn't have to be right upon you before bolts can begin happening. So I split almost as soon as I got to the top.

For those of you wishing I'd PP, I did a little bit with the frame, sharpened, that was it. I pretty much got exactly the shot I wanted and with the Canon XT, it's a nice easy take. I just used the basic stock lens that comes with the camera as it does pretty good for stuff like this.

As I sit upon the watchtower,
I wonder at the light
As I gaze upon the ground below,
I wonder at the sight.

Hi Gary,
Greatly capturing this old tower.
Sharp and neat image.
Very nicely composed picture. Nice PoV.
Nice shot. Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Gary,
I see you are getting the hang of the camera. The sharpness and depth in this photo are good and so are the colors and lighting.

Why did you use a tripod? The focal lenght and the shutter speed make the use of the tripod not really necessary. I even think that with so much light, you could have gotten a good photo of the eagles without a tripod.

TFS,
Niek

hehe, you would never het me up on that thing, gary! :-)
great shot with a great story...too bad about the golden eagles though.
how´s the view from up there?
well done & take care, thor.

Nice to see it!

Hi Gary, what a tall tower to climb, especially in a thunder storm. I like your POV, and the sharpness is good too.
I don't know why you use the tripod everywhere like this though.
Still a great photo and a good story to go with it too. TFS

A very nice shot, Gary! Onward, up to the heavens seems to be man's quest. Nice balance of the pic.Sky is not drastically over-exposed. Good work! (Like I always say, 'A photographer always has the choice of his/her frame.' This one doesn't work for me, but my own frames have been seriously criticized! ;)) Take care!
