[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My husband and I took the kids to the Knoxville Zoo today, for a bit of shooting. I managed to find this bird sitting there not moving, so I thought, "why Not".

pp: increased saturation, contrast, decreased shadows, sharpened 1 click, contrasted once more, cropped to include post behind him. framed and resized.

THank you for taking the time to look at my first photo.

Please leave any comments / critques to help me improve.
Thanks Connie

Oh contraire Connie, this is a most magnificent bird you have photographed. Excellent exposure, colours, sharpness and detail. Pity he is slightly obstructed by the branch, but that’s zoos' for you....limited PoV, however you have done very well.

Cheers
Wayne

Hi Connie! Welcome to TL- great first post-good photographers must run in your family- very nice colors, sharpness and detail here! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Best wishes,
Steve

Good shot, Connie! I find zoos can be a bit challenging because the surroundings are often distracting and not natural, but you did a good job here. Nice dappled light. Composition a bit centered, but in a square format, it still works well. Welcome to TL!

Welcome to TL and the world of photography, Connie. I have enjoyed your husband's pictures & comments and I can see that I will enjoy your pictures as well. Very nicely composed and good PP work to enhance this picture. Nice choice of DOF with a nicely blurred background but great sharpness on the bird. Well done and looking forward to your upcoming photos!

P.S. It is also fun to share this hobby and it is fun to see how you can often come back with very different pictures from the same place!

Hi Connie - Welcome to TL! And what a good 'introductory' shot. I like the sharpness of the bird. The of green branch (bamboo?) on the right, just next to the frame, makes a good difference. Well done.

Hello Connie.

Welcome to TL.

If this is an ugly bird...you are showing it at its most pleasing. The clarity is spot on...the colour of the bird against the background gives out so much added detail, your eye cannot help but focus on the subject. Also the vertical blurred lines in the background are adding alot of interest against the wiggerly branch.

All in all, this is a wonderful shot presented with a loverly frame, a big well done, a big smile and hope to see more of your shots very soon....keep snapping.

Stv.

I love this capture, the colors of the bird are amazing. I like the curvy tree in the foreground he's sitting on. I think your lighting and exposure are very good. The frame very complimentary, well done.

Hi Connie. Welcome to TL! Beautiful photo of the bird. Nice bright colors and sharpness!

Nice shot - sharp details and smooth colours all set off against a good frame. Personally I don't find him ugly - more of a bird with character :-)
Thanks for sharing
Mark
