[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This one was shot later in the evening at the King's Palace Cafe - we started out when it was still daylight at this place and came back while it was raining because we could hide under some shelter and still listen to a great band. The "Soul Outsiders" were still playing - they played well into the night - in fact we went back to the hotel before they stopped, so I couldn't tell you how long they played.

There were a lot of people who stopped to listen to the Soul Outsiders. It was fun just to watch those people, I got a couple of good candid people shots there, something I am trying to get better at. I found that in low light with a long lens you have to be quick and hold the camera steady - and set the shutter speed as a priority at about 50 or more, instead of using aperture priority as I did this night. Although, I may not have gotten this shot if the camera hadn't adjusted the shutter speed to the aperture, which was set as wide as it would go at any focal length. Another trick is to set your camera to take a burst of photos and just hold on while you shoot 3 or 4 or even 7 of the same thing - especially if your subject is moving - chances are you will get one good one. I didn't do that for this shot, either! I'm good at following my own advice, aren't I?

Back to the scene - raining on Beale Street, King's Palace Cafe, good blues music playing. This group of mom's with a couple kids walks up and gets sucked into this patio just like so many others. Of course, the bigger kid doesn't know from blues, he doesn't care about music, he just wishes he was home to watch TV or something, so being bored he was trying everything he could to let the adults know and not be too much of a pest - from the expression on his mother's face you can tell this is not lost on her, but she's out to have a good time with her girlfriends.

These folks were lit by a big neon sign that says "BEER" that is over my left shoulder and they are back lit by bright street lights. I was crouched down to get the kid under the umbrella. Tough lighting, but I think I captured the scene - there is some wide angle distortion that might add or might distract depending upon how you look at it. This was another attempt at shooting people in Memphis, I have a strange desire to be a good street photographer, but then I want to be good at all of it!

Hope you enjoy it. Have a great Friday and a better weekend! I'll be continuing this series on both TL and TE for some time to come, so I hope to see you soon.

Hey, we are neighbors today! This is interesting, I like the tilt. The colors are a little too saturated, if you notice the lady to the far left, a lot of the details in her face are blown out. I wish the boy in the FG was a little sharper, but you know how boys are, never stopping! This has a nice feel to it, a flow from top left to lower right. A color balance, or a process in Tungsten may have removed that pinkish look. Can't wait to see more!
B-)
