Yesterday I pointed out that there was a reflection of Elvis in just about everything you see in Memphis...

Well, not in this scene. The guy in the reflection is far from Elvis (and not dead, either!). That's me trying to capture this doorway that struck my interest. This place, "The Handy Bar" is at the far end of Beale St. - it offers pretty much the same thing as every other bar on Beale - beer, blues and burgers, but they had one interesting difference from the others. They actually had a sign that professes this to be a "Drug Free Zone." I don't know about you, but last time I looked (and was reminded several times by my young son long ago when he was in grade school) alcohol and nicotine were drugs. I mean, here's a place where you can get a "Big Ass Beer to Go", thirty-two ounces of malty, hoppy, cold and frosty goodness and smoke (they don't specify what, but it must not be drugs), but it's "drug free."

Interesting. I started to think... Does this mean that all those other places on Beale are NOT drug free? Does the Handy Bar just not approve or perhaps tolerate the use of illegal drugs, only the legal ones? This means of advertising begs many questions. I wonder why they even bother - is this a selling point on why someone would want to buy a giant-sized plastic cup full of beer? Well, I'll never know. I didn't set foot in the place. I don't even think it was open at this point... I just thought the signage was interesting and I relished a chance to get my own half-covered mug in the shot for once!

You may be wondering - look at that sorry excuse for a photograph - I wonder how many Big Ass Beers that guy had that night...

Well, if you must know, I drank no Big Ass Beers. It is too hard to control the D300 with it's large 18 - 200mm lens while trying not to spill a giant beer on yourself. I had a few small-ass beers, though. You can tell, can't ya?

Have a great day. I have to figure out why I'm no longer getting notified by e-mail when my favorite's upload or reply to a critique. Anyone else notice this problem?
