Tribute to Koko
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I read yesterday that Koko Taylor had passed away. She was the undisputed Queen of the Blues, a Chicago mainstay and a true American success story. Her songs and her style have been emulated since she came on the scene in the early 1960's. She could really wail the blues. Unfortunately, though I have seen her perform on a couple occasions, I never took a photograph of her, at least that I can find. I may have a print somewhere in the dozens of photo albums, but it probably would not scan well and be even more embarrassing than even my normal fare.
So, I will extend this tribute to all women of the blues, and to all women who enjoy the blues. These ladies dancing to the sounds of The Soul Outsiders on Beale Street were having themselves a "Wang Dang Doodle" weren't they?
Everywhere we went in Memphis there were people singing and playing the blues and people dancing. I know they will be playing a lot of tributes of their own to Koko Taylor down there this weekend.
So, this is for you, you women of the blues, you women who have the blues, and women who just wanna dance to the blues!
My condolences to the family of Koko Taylor, she will be missed, but we will listen to her immortal voice forever, as long as there is music.
I hope you all have a Wang Dang Doodle of a weekend! |

Well we are close today, but no cigar. Someone got between us! Nice work Reed! HAHA! I had to laugh as these ladies look like friends of mine! Nice sharpness. So sad when I great performer dies, a part of us goes too! The brick wall makes a nice backdrop!

Hello Reed
Nice tribute to this Lady of the blues. Nice POV from Memphis.

Hi, Reed,
Nicely done!! It looks so spontaneous. Well composed, excellent color and amazing detail for such seemingly low light. I am a big fan of blues and wasn't aware til I read your post Koko Taylor had passed away. She did some MAD good blues stuff. I LOVED her version of "I'd Rather Go Blind". Great shot! Many thanks and kindest wishes,
Shelly
Yup, how can you not move to the sounds of the blues. Great spontaneous dancing shot!
I saw Koko Taylor many moons ago, at the Winnipeg Folk Festival (whoa!!! it was in '83 - I just checked their website). If I remember correctly, she regaled us with some fine wailing at the Sunday morning gospel workshop!! Nice tribute to her Reed, and all women of the blues :)
Have a nice weekend
Trudy
