This is another one from the Beale Street Music Festival last May.

The band (and you see them all right here) is Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm. They are new and they are young. They hold the future of the blues squarely in their hands, hearts and minds. They did the blues proud in this performance, too.

On drums, Mr. Cedric Burnside is the grandson of the late R. L. Burnside and son of drummer Calvin Jackson. He has been playing the blues almost all of his life. He toured in his grandpa's band from the 1990's until R.L.'s death in 2005. He joined forces with Lightnin' Malcolm shortly thereafter. They have put out one album, the aptly named "Two Man Wrecking Crew". They played many of the songs, as well as a nod to R.L. Burnside (Ole Black Mattie), during this performance. I have to say it was powerful, raw, and different in a way that is pure North Mississippi blues. I loved every second of it, and when they were done I shook their hands and thanked them for carrying on with the blues.

You can see their passion for the music in this shot. You can hear a sampling of their blues at the first link above - it goes to their MySpace page.

There are some nasty storms coming in, so I need to get this uploaded. Sorry I cannot elaborate more thoroughly!

Have a great Monday and I hope the week to come is productive, profitable and painless!

Hey Reed, I went to the website and listened to their stuff. Incredible. Love the blues!! and it's amazing to see a two man band ... not even a bass player. That's not too common, but they have a really great sound.
Great shot too .. you really captured the intensity of these two, really into their music. Great purple glow from the spotlights.
Good job
Trudy
