[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's Bluesday, since I didn't get time to post a Monday Blues photo yesterday!

This was shot on Beale St. in Memphis, Tennessee, another from Handy Park, only earlier in the day - a different band was playing, but I didn't get their name. I really liked the way this guy looked - just too cool with those long dreadlocks, hat and shades. He played a pretty mean blues guitar, too. So I'm calling this one Dreads, Whites and Blues, 'cause there are a few shades of white in it. Imaginative, huh?

I like the guy sitting behind him, too, watching me take the shot. At first there was a lot of interest in my flamboyant manner of photographing people, like standing on park benches, shooting from behind statues, taking pictures of things that they didn't understand what the heck I was photographing, but I guess eventually they just figured out I was either drunk, somewhat retarded or perhaps just a geek and I blended right in with everyone else. Maybe the drunk part helped that out, I don't know.

I'm kind of coming to the end of my favorite Memphis in May shots, most of what I have left are blues shots, so I will have a lot of Monday fodder for the future. I guess I'm going to have to get back out there and shoot some more. I want to try to make a theme of my favorite places in St. Louis, or Missouri or something like that - the idea is just sort of swimming around in the jello that is my brain. I'll let ya know when I know!

I've been working on some extra-curricular activities to try to build up some cash on hand, so I haven't had a lot of time for TL or TE for the past several days, but I am about ready to start participating again. I'll be back tomorrow, with any luck.

Have a great Bluesday and thanks for looking!

This is a good shot Reed.
I like the really sharp image, and yeah, the dude chillin' in the background. Not too much in focus that it distracts from the subject.
I like the very subtle motion blur in his plucking hand adding life to the image, i like the reflection in the shades, and his pose adds rhythm. We know he's rockin' his head side to side in time with the music.
I also love the ambient glow of the available light bounced from the orange bricks and possibly any overhead cover on the stand.

In a word, Cool.

well done

Martin

Hello Reed

You seemed to have found your calling. The portraits of Musicians are really your thing. Nice work
