It's a fine Monday morning for the blues!

Well, if you are me, every morning is fine for the blues...

This is yet another shot of Hubert Sumlin from the Beale Street Music Festival during Memphis in May. I just got so many great photos of the action during this set that I had to share them with you all. You should see this one that I uploaded on TE today, too. That image is from this same performance of Hubert Sumlin, backed by the Billy Gibson Band. What a tremendous show!

I selected this photograph today because I liked the anomaly I got when I shot it. That green spot where Hubert is picking his guitar - is that some kind of lightning? Were his fingers moving so quickly over the strings that they caused this anomaly? It was an evening for anomalies, as you can see from this shot.

It actually is the reflection of the spotlight on the back of my UV filter. I suppose I need to get a better quality filter. I noticed it right away when I started shooting during that festival, I tried to be cognizant of it so I didn't let it ruin good shots. This time I used it to enhance the shot - at least that is what I was trying to do. I probably should have put a little exploding star of bright light in the center of it...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my Blues shot for Monday! Have a great week - I'm getting ready to go to Chicago for a long weekend, so it's going to be busy this week!

Hi, Reed -
Wonderful shot of this blues legend, with sharp details despite the low light. You've captured the atmosphere and energy well. Like you, I also like the accidental green glow at the point where his fingers meet the strings, which really does look like some supernatural energy produced by his playing. The strong stage lights in the background could have been a distraction, but you did not let them overpower your subject. Well done.

"Oh good" I thought ... "here's something interesting to read from Reed!"
(Love that other shot on TE .. is that really steam coming off his head?)
Good on you for being aware of that reflection and then using it to your advantage. Great job placing it right on his smokin' hot blues pickin'. You've done a great job on all these live music shots.
Have a good week Reed
Trudy

Hi Reed,

Great shot of the guitarist performing. I really like how you've incorporated the spotlights in the image. Good choice of border to match the anomaly from your UV filter.

Werner
