[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Heavy horses in harness at the Fort Worth parade. Black horses in black harness and just so elegant.This is a well matched pair as they are in perfect symmetry. They also look very much alike and could well be siblings. I love these big gentle horses and am so pleased to see them out and about.

Many of the parade horses were unshod as these are, as metal on pavement has no traction. Many performance horses in Texas are barefooted, i.e. without shoes. It is so much healthier for the health of the foot and the horses. The police horses are also barefooted as they were found to be developing foot problems from the heat of the pavement on the iron shoes. By the time the problem was discovered the horses had permanent foot damage. So, now they are all barefoot. There are specialist ferriers who trim barefoot.
