The original image was a black & white photo taken of the tip of the Landmark Pioneer Tower in Ft. Worth, TX. It is part of the Will Rogers Memorial Center, and was erected in 1936 - the year of the Texas Centenial. It was designed by architect Wyatt Cephas Hedrick in the Art Deco style. (sources = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Rogers_Memorial_Center & http://www.fortworth.com/02meetplan/0202conveventfac/020203willrogers/020203willrogers.shtml)

- I cropped the photo
- adjusted the shadows/highlights & brightness/contrast
- duplicated layer
- selected area around outer edges of photo on copy layer
- ran through the Cut Out (selection) filter on the copy layer
- erased using brush the area underneath the cut out selection, so the building on the background layer would come through
- put border around sky
- colored white cut out on layer copy grey
- framed
- resized for TL

Lots of steps here. I wanted to try my hand at architectural photography with a twist:-) Tomorrow, I have another view in color that I will post for you.

Hi Amy, thanx for your comments yesterday, I know Avedon's work well, he's one of my faves! This is a very creative image, from a true white to a true black and the whole grey-range in between hey, the marks of good b/w, (*_*)

Amy,

Very creative on your capture, I like the result with the building outside of the inside framing.

Very interesting shot, Amy! I really like your treatment here, very creative indeed. Looks like the tower is lifting off! Great job!

What an interesting and creative way to present this building, Amy. The building seems to be dissolving slowly to become part of the clouds. Excellent PP work as well, quite amazing actually. Bravo!

Nice B&W Amy, and great tonal range.
the patiece you ha dpayed off: this is a beuatiful omntage!

Well done!
take care, Stef :))

One brilliant idea very well executed. It gives a different POV and meaning to the building. TFS
