[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I've become quite the "weather bug", keeping my eyes open for different weather phenomenon. This was shot straight up, straight over my head, as a storm rolled in, the circular rotation was starting to form in the sky and the wind was picking up. The sky was literally "wicked". Some may find this boring, others won't care, but I love the challenge of shooting things with DRAMA. For me, weather has it's own drama.

Many of you live in areas where there is no tornadic activity, or hurricane activity. Some live with earthquakes, others Tsunamis. I live in Tornado Alley and it's not fun for your nerves. But luckily here in Houston we RARELY get above an F2..... but go northwest a piece and you will see F5's.... **shiver***
Have a great day!

hi linda, good day to you! there is drama in this shot, it has an almost abstract feel to it also , to see this in person would have been amazing but you have captured it well to give the viewer a good sense of was happening,
take care,
scott

Hi Linda,

This is a dramatic shot. I watched something similar over our neighborhood a couple of weeks ago and it does give one an eerie sensation. A couple of small tornadoes touched down in the state, but luckily not in my neck of the woods. Good job spotting and capturing this.

Best regards,
Werner

Hi Linda,
I think any kind of cloud rotation qualifies as drama. I always love going outside to try and determine what the weather is going to do. The weather is in my opinion unpredictable. Forecasters may have an idea about what might happen but truly it is unknown. Your capture shows that unpredictability in this rotating cloud. Nice work.

Regards,
Kevin

Wow... I'm completely with you here Linda.
I love this drama in the sky. The colors tell it all as does the swirl... I really love this!
Great details and depth in your picture...

We never have the kind of storms you guys have over there. On one hand I'm happy we don't on the other hand... we don't get to see such amazing skies!
I must say that over the last few years it looks as though our clouds are much bigger than they used to be, so things are changing. Also our sky seems less stable nowadays... more heavy winds in a shorter time....
I take many pics of the sky, specially with those huge thick clouds....

Cheers girl!
Anneke

Hello Linda,

I think 'wicked' is a just name for thie shot.
The clouds appear to be be circling in a very malevolent way, eating the space as they go!
Your cropping has emphasised this motion.

I'm thankful that, as yet, our experience of such weather conditions is very minimal.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi, Linda -
Your weather pictures are really spectacular, this one is no exception. It looks like impending doom. Awesome scary mood conveyed here. We get some interesting skies here at times, but nothing like the weather in the big flat states like Texas.

Hi Linda

I couldn't resist. I 'saw' a face in the clouds, & had to do a workshop.

Hello Linda,
Looking at the hearty of the beast here. I also here in Vancouver this year had the same phenom occur over my head at the house, it is eerie, but yet beautiful to witness at the same time.
Steve

Hi Linda,
I am a sky freak as well and love these patterns. I was hoping to has a bit of weather while in Oregon, but we only had blue skies. I like the swril a lot as if you flew straight through it. I do think you under exposed the photo just a bit too much. The upper clouds did catch some light and the edge should look brighter. Did you adjust your levels to find the bakc and white point? (Sorry I in the office and not able to check the histogram myself)
TFS,
Niek
