[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today is my 50th birthday and a mixture of feelings are flowing, mostly of thankfulness and gratitude that I am still alive! I took this shot in my garden, holding the camera up. I see the settings, 1/20 sec, no tripod...not bad for an old lady! HAHA!
So I post this for the theme, once again doing the thing that me, as a photographer, hates the most, photos of myself. I did cover over the blue vein under my right eye, which really stood out in the shot. (sorry Rew it was a distraction!)

It's REALLY hard post processing myself, and I noticed while looking that I look so much like my Dad, and his mother. But I also see my mother's mother in this face. How strange to be 50. How exciting! How amazing.... that I rode my bicycle 165 miles last weekend, with little or no soreness. How exciting to be alive in this age of instant chat, internet and twitter! So thankfulness is high on the menu today!
Have a great day!
linda

Happy Birthday and thanks for a really outstanding self-portrait
Great placement of the eyes very close to the thirds line
Superb colours and well-done over-all in one of the most difficult genres of photography
Thanks for contributing to the theme
Silke

Hello Linda,
Happy 50th birthday!
So, it's YOUR turn today to go through all those emotions! Could it be the influence of society that makes us feel this way when we turn 50?! I too felt all of that which you mention.
I like the chosen POV; it's my favorite for self-portraits as well.
Very nice color and sharpness of your eyes...all over, actually!
TFS and all the best.
Lurdes

Linda: A very Happy 50th Birthday from me & my wife Diana:)
You are certainly not old but wiser:)
Hard to see that this is at 20sec handheld and that initself an acomplishment...may the Lord bless you this year & many more to come.

Happy birthday Linda, and many more. This is an excellent contribution to the "thanks" theme. Yes, you've hit another milestone, but you're also taking full advantage of life and that's what's important. I wish I had the courage for a shot like this!

Enjoy your day!

Warm regards,
Werner

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA!!!!!!!

I'll be joining you real soon, 4 days to be exactly....in the worderfull world of the elderly people...))) From now on is all down the hill....just relax and enjoy the ride.)))

Happy birthday Linda, look at the bright side of thing, the more we grow old, the less we remember...maybe one day, we won't remember our age..))))

Fine auto-portrait. Well focus, exposed and good "normal" contrast. Well balance colors and fine skin tones.

I particuly like the angle you've choosen. What can I say more...you are a fine photographer. Keep in mind, that a fine scotch get better with age.

Hello Linda, Happy Birthday to you; you are as old as you feel...sounds to me that you are doing fine;165 miles on a bicycle, that's no mean feat.
I like the off centre composition of your self portrait.I would never consider doing this!
No camera shake considering this was hand held, well done.
Good light in your eyes.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Happy Birthday Linda, just remember that "its" years is just a number & really has little to do with ageing, as is obvious viewing your image, the real ager is the mind,so keep it young
just as your doing,165 miles riding a bicycle in a weekend, wow.
As for the self portrait,a first rate capture, colours, details sharpness & natural skin tones.Did you set up external flash
units or?
TFS

Happy Birthday Linda......it is really good to be alive....you are doing a great job with your photography and it sounds like the bike riding will be a great thing for you...have a great year...

Hello Linda,

This is birthday celebration as well as a Thanksgiving.
Congratulations on both counts!
A very nicely composed self-taken shot.
Sharp focus, fine details and with a good dof.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Are you having a big party tonight?

A very Happy birthday Linda,

Lovely self portrait, nice reflections in the eyes, if that was all the retouching you did you are wearing very well, it must be all that Texan air you are tearing through on your bike. It has been lovely chatting with you and seeing your photography over the last few years, here's to the next few.

Douglas

Ciao Linda, happy birthday and thanks for your lovely selfportrait, well realized with good focus, wonderful light on eyes, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Sorry I couldn't be with you)

Her Linda - not bad for a 50 year old!! I hope I look this good at that age :) You did well with your arm stretched out - it's not easy. Good focus and PP work...

Makes me think of the rhyme:
"There was a little girl who had a little curl,
right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good, she as very, very good,
BUT when she was bad, she was ... " That can't be you...

happy birthday, my dear.

another nice self portrait. just as well you have long arms.
;-)
here's to the next 50.
love,
Brian

Hi, Linda -
Happy Birthday!! You have the same birthday as my lovely wife. Yes, it's great to be alive and healthy, and your TL friends are grateful to have you. Your self portrait is excellent - I love the tilt of your head, the light in your eyes and your Mona Lisa smile. Great work for a hand-held shot of yourself! Wonderful uplifting note. Cheers, and many happy returns ...

Dear Linda,
A very happy birthday to you From my hotel at Montreal City!
You did a wonderful self-portrait with this light testifying of all life which animates you in your eyes!
I can tell you that you will have the same convictions and gratitude at 60! Have a great weekend! Annie

Happy Birthday Linda! Browsing through the gallery I saw this wonderful image of a model and thought "like to get hands on that one for a shoot"....Lo and behold it was you! Many congrats on your 50th :-)

I like the angle you've taken this from, great gleam in the eyes and remarkably sharp for 1/20 held at arms length. Nothing wrong in the removal of the vein either - whether it is pp work or make-up, the principle is the same and I think it's hypocrisy to suggest otherwise. Lovely shot and hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Linda,

When I try hand held shots I usually get the top of my forehead and the trees behind me!! hahaha. This is a great angle. It doesn't look "handheld" like many do. Great color choices with the blue shirt :) and the green background accenting your beautiful eyes and hair! Have a wonderful birthday!! LOVE YA!! ;) Lisa

Haha you're forgiven for wanting a little retouching, models always do. ;)

You've done a great job on this one I must say, well composed, great light and frighteningly sharp for such a slow shutter, you must have mega steady hands!

Happy 50th anyway ... and may I say, you don't look it!

What a wonderful birthday present! A fine self portrait, taken with an unique tripod (or should I say mono pod?) Anyway your blue eyes are glittering of joy. Well exposed with fine vivid colours.

Belated Happy Birthday, Linda! Many many good wishes for you from this part of the world. It's interesting to learn about your long distance cycle ride. You are so amazing and graceful!
Wish you grow younger!
This is a lovely self portrait.
Warm regards, abhijit.

A very Happy Birthday (belated - sorry, was away at work) Linda - congrats on a great self portrait too.

Very clear picture, nice focus on your eyes and great to use a slight tilt. And of course your trademark vignette works well here with the colours in the scene.

Hope you had a splendid day!!

David

Hello Linda
I'm sorry... I am very, very late... But I here I am wishing the best now that you came into the «club»; keep the integrity and the strength you always have show us.
Late but true, I wish you the best,
mb

Hi Linda,
yes - sure - it's me, I'm still living ;-)
Today is my first day back at TN and TL - looking around to see what's new ... I can't be without all your guys here.
So I'm happy that I lately can say:
All the best for you for the new year - may all your wishes come true ;-)

Your selfportrait is wonderful, do you realy have such impressive greet eyes, I love it. And you are looking much younger - sure! I celebrated my 40th birthday in April - since then I haven't been here - no time, bad vibrations on this site - but I still love it ...
But I saw - so many members gone.
Do you know anything about my friend "Janone" from the Netherlands - otherwise I will ask the Green Baron.

I send you many greetings from Germany
and I promiss to post again tomorrow ...

Sabine - wishnugaruda

Happy Birthday, dear Linda, may you live forever. Love janos T>Y

Happy Belated Birthday, Linda

hi Linda, some french for a little exercise!

"la valeur n'attend pas le nombre de années" c'est la phrase classique
maintenant pourquoi pas l'envisager ainsi "le nombre des années ne change rien à la valeur"
ou encore "qu'importent les années si la valeur y est"
...et qui dit qu'elle y est d'ailleurs et aussi pourquoi les compter?!...
tout ceci pour te dire simplement que nous avons (environ) le même âge! et que perso je n'arrive pas à faire du portrait (ou rarement) et surtout pas de l'autoportrait! ☺....
