This Cardinal has decided my pick-up is either his personal watch tower or there is a rival in the mirror or in the reflection in the window glass. I have another photo to add later of him attacking the reflection in the mirror. The bird might just be crazy since this behavior has gone on for a number of years. Hope you enjoy.

Hey Johnny,

Great job capturing a cardinal. They are one of the craziest bird species, no?

I think you are in the middle of two potential compositions here. Initially, I thought that you should have taken a step or two further in after you got this one to get even tighter on the bird. Now, I think it might have been better for you to take a step backward. Including more of the truck may give the cardinal a better sense of location. Even though I can easily see that he's on an wing mirror, backing up would emphasize it more and give him some scale too.

At least on my monitor here I have noticed that your images are awfully contrasty and maybe a little over-sharpened. Do you have those settings bumped up in your camera? I know my dad Bill-E had the same situation when he first switched to digital. After he turned those off and left the adjustment to post-processing, I think his images started looking a little more natural.

Great DOF, and some wonderful colors here. I like the contrast between the red of the cardinal and the blue of your truck.

Hope to see you around. I shoot a Nikon with a sling-type strap. If you see me, please come up and say hello.

skot
