[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had no idea how to categorize this image within the constraints of the TL list. The Friends/Family? Well, it's me, actually.

My photo group has a monthly challenge, ending on the first of the following month. The challenge for the month of May was "hands." We had some wonderful submissions. This one is mine.

It took me three different sessions to get this one close to how I wanted it. In the first session, I couldn't get the lighting quite right. In the second session, I realized that my composition was all wrong (upon further review, they weren't that bad). In the third session, I misplaced my reflector and had to use my light stand to hold my black background. Was I successful? Well, I'll leave that to the critiques.

----
I had my back to the camera, firing with my remote release and shooting tethered so I could review the images on my TV as I shot.

I had my flash on top of my TV (since the stand was in use), with a Gary Fong Lightsphere bouncing off the ceiling camera right.

I had black felt draped over two lightstands to keep the background dark.

In post I didn't do too much. Increased the exposure, contrast, clarity, and saturation a touch; sharpened, and exported to jpeg.

Hi Scott
Good shot from a nice point of view
Just I want to mention about focus point. Please be careful about it, you have to focus exactly on hand and fingers not on the middle of violin. Also a deeper DOF by choosing a closer aperture may help/

Hi Scott
grate idea
nice sharp and light!
Well done!

Oana

Hello Scott,
For me these blind instruments are
the most beautiful one among all,
A day before yesterday i also purchased
a violin for my sister she will be learning
her lessons from today,
My recent post was also related to musical
instrument and after taking inspiration from
your shot soon i will post a shot of violin,
With the black BG your subject comes out clear,
The effect of out of focused left side and
focused hand is nice,
Nice POV,
TFS,
Kind regards,
Vaibhav..
