[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken the day after I got my new digital SLR camera last year, this was my first try at close up photography with a digital camera. Try to get everything right in this one from point of view with a black board used for the background. Used ISO 100, the lowest setting for better clarity and a high F-stop for a short depth-of-field. Used bright midday sun light with a white board for reflective light. Set up on a try pod I also used the timer on the camera as to limit shaking. The one thing missing was a good micro lens.
The next thing to get on my list.. LOL
Post processed with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 to sharpen, enhanced the brightness and contrast. Cropped, resized and added border for TrekLens.

Hi Denny, I have a few of these plants. It is always nice to see them in bloom isn't it? I like the way you have the bloom peeking out of the frame. It really brings the attention to the gorgeous flower. Interesting framing technique. I think this would also look nice in black and white. Nice nature shot. :) Lisa

Hi Denny,
Nice close up of this bloom, the focus and colour is spot on and the detail of the water drops has been caught nicely. The framing and presentation, again, brilliant. TFS

Hi, Denny. Nice close up of the flower and the way the flower is presented and placed points to a pleasing composition. The flower and the water droplets look good. I did a workshop since Lisa suggested a dark color and I choose a dark green which is complemetary to the red. in my opinion. Please look at it but I like your version.Cheers and TFS.

Ciao Denny

Beautiful visual
I like this show
of the flower almost escaping from Frame!
A beautiful palette of colors and well done.
I like the framing, sharp fine details in the macro!

Hi Denny,

Your end result is very well done. I like the water droplets, the light and dark contrasts, the shadows, the sharpness of your blossom and the image overlapping. You mentioned that you were trying to get a short DOF, so you chose f22. By doing that, you actually selected a long DOF. You need a small f number to get your lens open wider -- and, that gives you a shorter DOF. Since your lens was so close to your image, it didn't matter that much, because DOF drops off as you get closer. Very nice photo, in any case. TFS.

Regards,
John
