Another one of my Roosevelt photos...This is one of my favorites. This guy is doing his last maintenance check at the end of yet another one of his 18 hour work days. We had been out to sea since September 17th (this was taken January 17th) and we didn't pull into a port for another month or so. This Sailor, along with the rest of us didn't know what we had in store for the rest of the "trip".

Here is the original caption:
At sea aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Jan. 17, 2002 -- An Aviation Boatswain's Mate "Handler" checks the shuttle on one of four steam catapult systems after a full day of flight operations. Theodore Roosevelt and her embarked Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1) are conducting missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Stacey once again the mood in this shot suits the face this yellow shirts head is pointing. I remember being out to sea thinking once the sun set that another day closer coming back to home and with friends and family this image brings back some memories thanks for bringing me back and I hope that people appreciate what you did over in harms way thanks...

Waoooo ! Wonderful.
Great shot. We would believe to be in the TopGun movie.
I don't know the zoom length you used, but with a lower speed, and greater aperture, you should get a higher depth of field. (I think?)
A nice photo, I like it !

Great shot. I love the composition and the mood. If it wasn't for the note I would have thought that this man was waiting for a plane to land or that he was lost in his thoughts. How can someone stay focussed, concentrated and "play" with other people's life after 18 hours of work. Two thumbs up, for the picture and for your job.

Wonderfull colors Stacey with an excellent composition and imo you sure succeeded in creating a mood here, like the hot air rising here also .. great shot !

Excellent composition! The scene, the lighting, the sunset, everything works great! Very fine!

Wowsers, what a shot! Great timing. Normally, I would have been critical of someone on the edge of the frame facing out, but for some reason this doesn't bother me here... the sun pulls my attention back from the left hand edge of the frame.

Great shot, great colors and very well balanced. Good composition.

Very warm colors and tone in this image. The subject looks as though he is thinking about what went on throughout the day, or the upcoming night.

Great photo. The flight deck does give one great respect for the open spaces of an airfield though...Cya/ matt

Great moody shot. I love the haze created by the heat on the horizon. I have to agree with the comments about the position of the handler, it works wonders for the mood of this photo. TFS.

Oh, oh, oh ! Another picture of the sunset on the Roosevelt boat. This one is sadder and nostalgic because the sun disappears and the man turns the back to him, too tired to appreciate the beauty. The message is stronger.

Wow, hard life not knowing where or what is in the future, trained for war.

This sunset is fantastic...
Il a l'air un peu irréel et pourtant... Très belle composition qui donne un petit air de nostalgie et de tristesse.
Bravo Stacey...
Gisèle

Very nice composition - sunset light and note. You may have a lot of beatuful sunset at Roosevelt, don't you?
We have this kind of image very strong in our minds from the movie Top Gun. But this one is real and much more interesting.

Alex

Stacey, I agree with you this is also one of the photos on your file I like the most. Beautiful colours, captivating and his pose is that of tiredness, monotonous, and dangerous. Great epic photo. Thanks

DAM

This is a magnificent photo Stacey. I want to be a bit more specifc for you, but everything comes together so nicely from the colours to the pose and the heat haze that I really can't pick out anything to be specific about.

Another one for the favourites! :)

Dennis..

Nice view from the carrier. I would love to be there.

I find this picture very strong, it seems to me that you perfectly captured the feeling of the moment. very nice
claire
