That is my Uncle Luther who only recently passed away. He was my mother's oldest and only remaining sibling out of 8 children. He was the dearest man. He was telling us a story when I took this shot and he was just so sweet and so... childlike. He passed away at 95 and had only shortly before lost his wife of, oh, 70 years or more, I guess. There are just so many things to tell about that amazing couple. I have the greatest love and respect for both of them.

I was surprised to find this was shot with my Dimage Z6. I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Hi Shelly, you must have been pleased to have found the photo - yes, he does look a very dear man. Old age can be very hard, but you have captured him and his expression really well.
I like what you have written about him too, it is lovely to know that he was loved and cared for

Hi Shelly,
Very suitable photo for this weeks theme. The composition and lighting both look great. I do however have to be honest about the clarity - From a distance it looks good, but on closer inspection it seems like it could be a lot sharper. Have a look at his ear, eyes, and the white wall in the background. I see this was taken a couple of years ago though and when you had your old camera. Other than that it looks good.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Shelly,

I applaud you for sharing this photo. You title is very appropriate and the saying is the absolute truth. This is the type of photo one holds and treasures until our time, too, runs out.

Warm regards,
Werner

Hello Shelly,
this is a good study of old age. But of course it is much more than that too.You and he have a connection and that shows. Perthaps this lacks a little in sharpness and dof but that really is not the point. This photograph together with your loving note make for an endaering post.
best regards,
Bev

Hi Shelly, really nice capture of your uncle, and thanks for sharing it with us. My dad is 94 and 1/2, and you're right ... old age is not for sissies ... it's really tough for him to adjust to all his limitations .. the mind is willing, but the body is no longer able!!
Really nice to have this shot of him .. the tones might be a little too blue .. you might have been warmed it up a little.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Shelly.

I can tell from looking Shelly that he was a very special guy! What an amazing story! One that deserves to be written down! I love the natural look, it's nice and sharp with lots of detail! Wonderful portrait Shelly!
B-)
Linda ***PS..I gotta live to 95 to make it 50 years with Dave...so I got a while!

Wonderful portrait of whom I am sure was a very special and dear person. God love, bless and keep you Uncle Luther.

Hi Shelly,
Your uncle makes a perfect portrait for the theme!
The details of the old age and tiredness are clearly visible on his face. You show a good acuity in her eyes, they seem to want talk with us! Very touching ! Bravo! Annie

Hi Shelly,
An adorable portrait of Luther. His pose and view is priceless. Only I would have decreased the brightness and increase the contrast a bit. Made a WS to show what I mean. Overall a really fine picture Shelly!
