A powerful image... "Hate."
This is a still photo taken sans flash at the "Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate" exhibit at the Holter Art Museum in Helena, MT last spring.
Ralph Esposito was one of over 100 artists from around the country that responded to a call for submissions centering around a large number of hate books that came into the hands of the Montana Human Rights Network.
Ralph's piece, a portion of which is shown here, was called "Sticks and Stones" (mixed media and acrylic, is 50"x31").
This exhibit was, without a doubt in my mind, the most powerful and intriguing installation ever at the Holter Museum.
To read more about the hate books and how the exhibit came to be, check out these links:

Both these sites help tell the story of the "Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate" exhibit and how it came to be. Mr. Esposito, by the way, used the "White Man's Bible" and other hate literature to create the piece shown here... amazing artwork and a powerful message.
I hope you check out the links provided here and give it some thought - there is too much hate in the world today; we should all be doing what we can to stand up to it. Hate - a powerful word, to be sure.

[Speaking of, I think I'll create a theme (haven't done that yet) for words - as they can be powerful when placed within images... watch for that to come soon. I'll use my "Imagine in Bloom" post within that same theme...] |
