[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On the fifth day of our cruise, we entered Glacier Bay for a day of cruising to see all the fabulous scenery and observe the wildlife of the area. The Margerie Glacier was a wonderful sight. When we approached as closely as we could, it towered above us on the 8th deck of our cruise ship. We heard the tremendous roar and crack as the glacier 'calved' it's icebergs into the calm waters of the bay, leaving a buge ripple where the chunks of ice fell.

HI Joan
Amazing, awesome beauty at Glacier Bay. You weren't on the boat that ran aground there recently were you?? From the photo it you can't really see how huge the glacier is, 25 stories high. When there is another cruise ship in front you can get an idea of the relative size. We did a 2 week cruise back in May last year. It's great to see your pics and relive our moments
Cheers
Sue

Hello Joan

What a beautiful scene you have captured here, nice sharp detail and excellent light and colour

TFS regards Helen

This is just great, Joan - i like this a lot and i think it's the best of the series in my view. Well composed, the shutterspeed/aperture combo has worked well, giving a clear and sharp image. Again we get a wonderful impression of the vastness of the area - really a very nice shot.

Nothing to criticize about the photo, all i'd ask is whether you have a polarizing filter? It doesn't look so, as it would have strengthened the blue sky.

I really do like this, and I am very envious!

I hope the glaciers will be there for quite some time still, Joan... but with global warming seemingly unstoppable, I'm afraid their days are slowly coming to an end.
Nice view; colours are very nice, DoF outstanding. The only thing I miss here - no fault of you, btw - is something to scale the glacier's edge, like another ship or so.
Anyway, never mind: a very nice picture.
