[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Was playing with Photoshop last night after taking some shot of the full moon. This is a composite of 3 photos, the butte, the moon and a cloudy sky.

PP:
-all 3 photos shot in RAW, and adjusted for exposure in Lightroom
-opened all 3 in CS3
-adjusted levels and contrast of all 3 separately
-copied the moon and pasted into a layer between 2 copies of the butte, positioned and resized the moon
-applied a mask to the sky of the upper layer of the butte, exposing the moon
-Copied the cloudy sky, pasted into a layer between the upper butte layer and the moon layer
-applied a mask to the sky layer, exposing the moon behind the clouds
-converted to B&W using channel mixer, with the blue filter preset
-sharpened and framed
-resized and USM

For the repost I added the lightning. I had wanted to put lightning in and finally learned how to make it in PS, since I had no photos of any. I also removed the frame.

To make lightning, open a new file. Place a gradient mask. Apply filter "difference clouds." Invert. In levels, change the white point to 200, and move midtones point to effect.

Hello David,
This photo is fantastic. Is strong, has a great light and detail, and the storm effect is amazing. I love the b/w work.
Congrats and regards, jmb

This is an amazing scene and an example of some complex pp work. I really like the b&w effect and also the added lightning. The details and textures of the landscape, however, are the important features of this composition and would be better served without the competing textures/distractions in the sky to the right side of the butte. Love the earthy strength here, and the moody clouds above. Well done!

Not real but who cares :):) Well maybe just an idea... what if you put more sky to this one ? I thought its a little to tight for that big moon and the clouds. Maybe just adjust the butte scale
