...and glad you shared that moment with us.
That dogs head sure is big!
I have no WS left, but maybe I would have used a gamma correction up on the dogs head only.
I do that by copying the picture - using the copy for a gamma correction, then Edit/Copy and Edit/Paste special bottem. Then use the clonestamp on half opacity, click on the lighter version and carefully "paint" over the digs head - of course with PhotoFiltre.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW..... too cute! I love my pup! This photo really shows the love of a pet and owner. Nothing but joy seen here! I like the contrast of light and dark in the photo.

Nice moment in time. Very good sharpness and detail and the light from the flash actually feels about right here, nicely done and managed.
I'm not really bothered by the light of the dogs head, maybe a tiny, tiny bit by the glare of the flash on the blonde hair, but not enough to bother with; for me, sometimes it's just natural that's best, especially with a subject such as this. ;)
Good timing as well.
