On my way home today I stopped at a nearby cove to check on the shoreline situation after a recent cargo ship accident in the San Francisco bay that released 58,000 gallons of oil into the waters. The oil was carried by currents and tides to beaches and coastal areas both in and out of the bay, causing damage and death to water fowl and other marine life. The cove area still had signs warning people to stay off the beach, but the water looked okay by now and the birds were busy feeding in the late afternoon low tide.

I watched this white egret for quite a while and he didn't seem to mind:)

PP: adjusted contrast/brightness, sharpened, resized, added border.

Great capture of the elegant egret... great composition and sharpness. I like the white softness of the feathers against the rippling blue tones of the water

Hello Karen,
Amazing how the egret almost filled up the frame. Well framed with good exposure and color. I liked the water ripple. Cheers! Danilo

Hi Karen
Glad everything looks good at least in this guys home waters. Nasty event. Beautiful capture - vivid white with the rippling water.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Dan

Hola Karen,

Buena captura de este elegante animalito, me gusta la composición de los colores obtenidos. Buen trabajo.

regards,

Pako

Great shot Karen.
The bird is perfectly placed and the white pops out so well.
Yes, it was quite an upsetting situation with the oil spill,
I was at Baker Besach just days before they closed it. After spending so much time lately shooting things around the Bay it really hit me hard. Although i hear it's not a relatively big spill it still hurt :(

Many thanks for your visit and comments to my picture: Alone on the Hill

I love the pose of this bird - absolutely classic heron/egret. The white contrasts well against the subtle blue of the water (slightly overexposed on the back, but not a big issue). Good technique to watch the bird and capture this moment.
Thanks for sharing
Mark
