[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The horse races are great for shooting pictures with many angles of motion. I find that 1/200 sec works to allow motion blur along with sharp details of parts of the picture. The races are every 30 minutes and there is about 1 second of opportunity for each race so the chances are not great to capture good shots.

What a terrific action shot! I think this is the best horse one I've seen! Outstanding! I like how you have blurred the background. I was surprised at the 200! I would have not thought to use that! Terrific effect!

I like the pan and the action freeze

Excellent capture under difficult circumstances, Roger. Bright colors, sharp where it should be. It conveys a large amount of energy, thanks to the blurred legs and the way you leave space in the frame in front of the horses. Well done.

This is very good. The motion blur on the hooves and the background makes it dynamic but the details of the riders and the horses' heads are still nice and sharp. Great sense of action.

I read your note and sympathise with you. I work in harness racing (http://www.treklens.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=416511) and it really is hard to capture the moment ... our races run every 20 mins.
You've done a great job in your whole series of race photos here.
