taken a couple of years ago at Scotty's Castle, Death Valley, USA. The bright lights streaming in -- always problematic to me.

"Scotty" was a friend of the owner of Death Valley Ranch. The "castle" actually belonged to a multi-millionaire and his wife who befriended Scotty. In the 1920s, they built their place in an oasis of the larger desert landscape. Scotty, who was basically a gold-digger and fortune hunter, befriended them and lived within the confines of the estate for several years. Strange story; see National Park Service website for more info.

Beautiful architecture with lots of nice personal touches.

Death Valley is extremely inhospitable. The photographic opportunities there are unlimited (but, then again, I love the desert! LOL!)

Seriously, I DO love the desert, but if you have never visited a real desert, make sure
your transport is in good working order, and that you bring plenty of water. At the least.

Scotty's Castle is out in the middle of nowhere, within the boundaries of Death Valley.

Can't remember which camera I used; it was neither the Canon or the Nikon. I remember, however, natural light.

The photo was scanned into Photoshop Elements from a print.

This pic is a workshop of the original. I used the "outline" filter. If all goes well -- LOL! -- I will post the original shot in a workshop. Still so new to PP, sorry. Regards to all, ck

Hi CK!
No critique on this photo because it's so old...and I'm sure your shooting style has changed. But, I will say that your pp work looks good. You chose well on the filter you selected. It really helped to enhance the texture of the walls and drive in the feeling of that "aged" look. But, I especially like how it somehow made the light coming out of the window more prominent. Well seen!

Fantastic shot, I love the color and also the PP is perfect for this shot, well done CK

Hey CK :-)

very cool shot! interesting angle and format and i think the PP work is terrific! very nice painted effect you achieved and i really like the whole look of the result ^_^

great job!

Good composition, and vertical crop. Window light has always been a problem for me too. One day digital cameras hopefully will improve on this area. I like the outline edges. Well done.

Beautiful shot here! I was there in 1962 and still remember it vividly! I hope that you got to see the burst of wildflowers in the "valley" this Spring. This is a difficult shot but you pulled it off gteat!

hi ck,
very powerful PP work. I liked the placements, the toning of the wall and the cadrage where the stairs take a part.the framing is little bit faulty I think but not related with the pic, sure.
regards

This picture has a real nice flow to it. You see the light as a problem but I really like the effect it has on the rails and on the door. Shooting this through the doorway has gives it some dimension. Makes me want to walk through it to see what else is over there:-)
The only thing that I can see that bothers me is the dark spots in the windows. I think it would look better if there was nothing but light coming through. This is really fun to look at. It has a wonderful Southwest flavor to it.
