[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The weather was glorious yesterday (finally!) so I went hiking at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont, California. There are trails through marsh areas and also up into rocky formations overlooking the salt flats along the bay (interesting to see from the air when approaching the San Francisco airport).

I turned a corner around a tall rock formation and suddenly felt that I wasn't alone. Glancing up over my shoulder, this turkey vulture was staring back at me! I made sure I acted very alive:)

PP: adjusted levels, resized, sharpened, added simple border.

wow so full of itself!
Very nice

Hi Karen,

Great wildlife shot, I loce the yellows of the rock contrasted with that lush pale blue sky. The ugly/majestic bird is perfectly sharp and well placed in the frame.

Cheers
Tom

What a spectacular shot Karen!
Perfect blue sky for you to set this Vulture against.
At first I thought it was a Condor, because I happened to see my first one ever of this rare bird down in Big Sur. Didn't get such a decent shot though, it was kind of faraway :(

Anyway. this is perfectly composed and preseneted my friend.
Congratulations!

Karen, I like the compo and the colours, but don't quite understand your exposure settings here. Ok, you "were acting very alive", but even so, you could have used the command wheel to alter the aperture, I guess. 1/30 is very risky when shooting birds, even "stoic" birds like vultures. I think a larger aperture, say f/8 would work even good as far as DoF is concerned (there are no disturbing bits and pieces in either fore- or background) but the speed would definitely have been better. Ok, sharpness is good, I'll admit that, thanks to the IS. But that's only because you had a good, still model. With a livelier bird you'd stand no chance for a sharp capture with these settings...
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
