taken at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.

the long-spined sea urchin, also known as black longspine urchin, has a body which is predominately balck with light blue lines and its long thin spines have alternating sections of black or white which can break off easily if handled too roughly.

being nocturnal creatures, these urchins will hide during the day and only come out at night to forage for food such as algae and seaweed. in the wild they congregate with others to form a defensive mound. they are venomous, with their stings roughly equivalent to that of a bee sting.

Hi Ben,
I am absolutely amazed by the fine details of your composition. I also like the muted colours of the water - it does not draw the attention from the sea urchin. TFS
