Springtime in the desert brings amazing light to the rocks and mountains. This is Red Rock Canyon near Mojave about an hour and half from my house.

Parts of the movie "The 10 Commandments" were filmed here. This spot represented the area below Mt Sinai. Charlton Heston brought the stone tablets down to the Jewish people right below this rock formation. They painted in a "Mt Sinai" in the final film.

John Huston and other directors also made Western movies here as it was the strangest rock formations close to Hollywood.

Just a few weeks back they were making a Chevrolet commercial here.

I just like the place when it's quiet and late afternoon light dances across the desert.

really beautiful !!! color are great, to me it looks not very peaceful but hey ... i live on another side of the earth :-)
note is nice too.
good job

Hard to beat the colours of the desert! You gave us a good perspective of this rock formation. IMO, the right side in the shade takes away some of the dramatic impact. Good job!

Great light in this shot David really emphasises the majesty of the rocks. Great capture, your composition is spot on as are the exposure and point of view. Just one thing missing for me something to show the scale, but such a minor point has not detracted from the overall quality of the image. Well done.

David, what a place to go for hikes or byke rides, and of course pack your camera with you. Thanks for the note.. it is nice to see a bit of a story to the pic. THe colours are magnificent. One place I definetly have to visit. Take care.

I like the impressive formation in the rocks, their layers are magnificient...Warm tones are great with blue sky...Excellent...

Wow! This one is so beautiful that gives me goosebumps :-) It's another crisp sharp photo with a wonderful light. It almost feels like we can breathe the air in the photo, this is weird I know, but everything is so clear, and sharp that it really feels like we're there, watching the sunlight painting the rocks...
Well done.
Ana

I love these colours and stucture so much. I hope that I once will be able to make this pictures myself. Thank you.

Beautiful and original shadow cast to camera right. (David it's Amir-I'm finally on here!)

Hi David,
Wow. I was just at Red Rock at the end of the year. Before I even read your note, it was what I had in mind (that and the Pinnacles). You've done a wonderful job capturing this outgrowth of rock. Composition is nice and so the flowing lines of the "hill top." The light here is fantastic...almost looks like sunset light.
Well done!
Richard

good vibrant colors in this one, especially with the sunlight on it. Excellent landscape.

Wow, beautiful mountain of eroded rock. Hot looking!

Nice photo, especially the light. I am a sucker for the desert! I really enjoyed the notes as well. I've added your pic to my At the Movies theme, btw.
