Here is a color picture of Mario showing some more of the studio. Thanks for your comments yesterday. I spoke to Mario who likes the shots and is enjoying reading what everyone thinks.

Very cool shot Roger. Good to see some color in this one, and especially a little of the studio behind him .. it's intriguing to me. Again, nice eye contact over the glasses, and it's great to see almost the whole bass.
Hi Mario, very interesting instrument .. I've never heard of a 7 string bass. Where can I hear some of your stuff?
Great job Roger.

Hi Roger,

I looked at yesterday's post as well as today's and have to say I like this one better. Mario does not look as serious and somewhat threatening in this one as the other. He looks like he spends a lot of time with that bass, too!

While I like both shots, I don't think I would use either one as a CD front cover, but think they would fit inside with liner notes or on the back cover. For the front cover I would be tempted to shoot just the bass guitar from an obscure angle (so you still know exactly what it is) or perhaps from above with a spilled reel to reel tape over it - something more artistic, graphic. That's just me, though. I would love to have a similar opportunity - I just signed on with some real estate agents to shoot their listings for the Internet listing service and brochures, not real exciting, but my first actual professional job!

Have a great week!

This is also very nice, although I think I prefer the b&w. Still a very good portrait. I especially like the color of the guitar. TFS

Hi Roger,
I am afraid I am in the B&W camp for this - another brilliant picture but I think the B&W was more eyecatching in the 'less is more' type of thinking. - I hope you get more critiques on this....two B&W and 2 colour - what a dilema! TFS

Hi Roger
Mario likes his 7-string basses eh?
Nice to see all the glitz in the shot - plenty to look at and the scene tells the story for Mario. One minor point - the string of lights at the top of the shot above Mario's left shoulder is a little distraction for me, perhaps Mario could lend me his shades (hee hee hee).
Nice one.

Hi Roger,

I was absent from TL for the past couple of days, so I needed to check your previous post (great B/W portrait BTW) to learn more about Mario. Impressive stuff...

But to be honest I like this one more than the B/W version. Maybe because of his cool pose and the look in his eyes...yeah, I really like the way he looks in the camera.

Great portrait with wonderful compo and really nice colours.

Have a nice week,

Stasa

boa noite Roger
What I like more is the red guitar and the way he embrace it. I loose the target ( Mario and guitar) with so many things around.
Your capture is great!

Hi Roger,

Your photo of Mario today is superb. I like the way in which he's fondly holding his instrument. I also like the view of him in the midst of his recording equipment. Although, it looks a bit cramped in his studio. It's interesting to see the old reel-to-reel tape machine. It's like the studio equipment pieces are musical extensions of his bass. Together, they all make music. So far, I prefer thia one for the CD cover.

Regards,
John

Hi, Roger -
Like the color this time, and Mario has a great look, particular the way his eyes peek over the sunglasses. The way he holds the guitar very close this time so it is not in front of his face keeps it from being a distraction and it becomes a part of him instead. While the studio equipment is interesting, I still think it makes too busy of a background to be an effective CD cover. Perhaps you could find one interesting piece of equipment to put behind him - a mixer or an amplifier - and leave it at that. I don't think I've ever heard the sound of a 7-string bass before and I look forward to hearing his work. Let us know if he has a website. Cheers -

WOW! This dude is cool!! I love the color version here Roger! Everything is super sharp! Excellent work on this. Love the "over the sunglasses" look!
