He's known as The Umbrella Man and is a fixture of Pacific Ave in Downtown Santa Cruz. He can be seen inching along in "Baby Steps" (one of his nicknames) almost any evening.
I was with a friend shooting night street scenes when I saw him progressing along the sidewalk. I ran to the car to get my flash and a 12" reflector and ran back to take a picture. I didn't really need to run - he hadn't moved more than about 6 feet.
