Something different for me today. An experiment with color and some filters. This was a photo I took at Natural Bridges State Beach a few months ago in the Monarch Grove.

"The park's Monarch Grove provides a temporary home for over 100,000 Monarchs each winter. From mid-October through the end of February, the Monarchs form a "city in the trees." The areas mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove provide a safe roost until spring."

The sky was originally and uninteresting blue, so I began to play with the shot with Nik's Bi-Color Filters and Viveza.

This is a VERY unusual way to portray butterflies!! A first for me! Wonderful sharpness, good off center cropping and I LOVE the graduated BG! Nice work Vincent!

Hi Vincent,

Very creative composition. At first glance looks like a
painting, well composed and very nice colors.
Have a nice day!

Cheers,

Hello Vincent,
it took a while until I realized you are presenting this bunch of butterflies. Very impressive colours and good sharpness. I am sure you have improoved the original exposure a lot.
Well done. TFS Thomas.

Hi Vincent,

Nice colors! At first sight I decided this is flowers, but then read your note :) Very interesting shot!

Hi Vincent:)
Experiment done very nicely, matching this specific situation. I never had a chance to see these butterfly's there but maybe some day:):):)
Great, moody capture, thanks:)
Greetings - Tom

They're all butterflies?? That's kinda creepy ... like Hitchcock's The Birds but on a much smaller scale ...!

Beautiful colours, light, composition here though. That gradient through the frame is fantastic.

Hi Vincent

An unusual shot of the silhouetted multitude of butterflies with superb color, sharpness & saturation. The yellow, red, & orange gradated colors of the sunset, make a stiking backdrop. Tfs!

Ciao Vincent

the theme for this!
I like the colors degradee to the stronger,
Beautiful compositon and very interesting idea and PP.

Beautiful!! This is the kind of image I can swoon over:) The background gives this such an exotic and artistic aura, it is irresistable:) Love the simple composition and the fascination of the butterflies gathered together in a graceful cascade. Glad to see you venturing into different looks...and obviously with great success!

Salut Vincent,
