Milk Vats

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Well, perhaps I've lost my mind taking a shot like this, but I found the light and the stainless steel intriguing in this crowded room while on a tour of a creamery yesterday. The tour took place at the Redwood Hill Creamery in Sebastopol, California. They specialize in making artisan goat milk cheese and yogurt products. The goat milk is piped directly into these large vats for pasturization that kills both harmful and good bacteria, then good bacteria (cultures) are added back into the milk. We were told that the cultures are obtained through distributors that must import them from Europe where there are only two places that produce them (one was in France, and I missed the other...please avoid taking crying babies on tours like this!).
Don't worry...I took more shots to share:) It was challenging to keep up with the tour while trying to adjust camera settings and find space to compose shots...so sometimes it worked and many times it didn't. There was someone else there with a camera, too...a nice Canon 5D...sure I hope I don't run into his shots here next to mine...hehe.
PP: standard RAW adjustments and sharpening, tweaked the contrast and vibrance a bit, resized, added border. |

I understand your frustration, these places should have one tour a day just for photographers. Great captures of all the piping and stuff - perfect use of the available light.

Hi, Karen -
You take nice industrial-themed shots; this one is very cool. The graphics of the piping running at right angles, the shine off the stainless steel surfaces. Good sharpness, especially considering the lighting conditions - I tried getting some similar shots at the Nestlé Cailler chocolate factory in Broc, Switzerland recently and I had a ton of trouble getting clear shots on the move. Do you find that your 400D performs well under such conditions? Cheers -
