What a great shot Roger! Love her natural look, and expression. You have the shadows to deal with here, but I like the diagonal shadow from her hat, shading one eye and not the other.

I'm personally not a fan of shooting in strong sunlight because the shadows that are cast bother me. I had a shoot on Sunday with a lot of images discarded for that reason, but I guess it's personal taste, and, in some cases, can work quite well, as I think it does here.

A nice portrait.

p.s. I recommended your work to a TLer whose shot resembled a 'trophy snap' yesterday, and suggested that actually asking appealing strangers for their photo produced much better results than sneak-shots from behind!!

Hi Roger,
Great portrait, good to see that she's a fallow Canon photographer :). The composition and exposure looks good here, nice focus due to the shallow DoF too. I quite like the B&W effect, and how she's looking away from the lens. Excellent job.

Nice portrait. You had a natural light and luckly she was wearing a hat to protect her eyes from the sunlight and not blink.
