This shot was taken using only one flash unit to create the highlights on the left side of the shot and ambient light on the right side. The flash unit was mounted on a stand and shot through a diffuse umbrella. The background was black cloth.

Hello Roger,
The technical details of this portrait are superb. Artistically, I can almost gaze to his soul by the sharp focus on his eyes; there is a bit of tension on his face but he appears on the verge of smiling. Thanks for telling us details of your lighting setup. Regards.

Wow, the details here are amazing Roger! Beautiful BW. I'm impressed by your ability to capture such sharp images. The black BG is a favorite of mine! I think white is distracting from the person. I love his expression!

beautiful low key portrait Roger... love the intense look of the guy, good control of the flash! superb! everything looks natural... well done TFS

Getting some really good results now on your lighting setups. Good catchlights in his eyes, and I think your aperture/shutter settings were perfect for this.

Hi, Roger -
To me it appears that you've achieved a completely natural appearance with your lighting setup for this shot. The highlights on the side of his face are subtle and the texture and detail can still be easily seen. Interesting subject with his somewhat shy or guarded expression. Very nice image.
