I liked the sculpture of the Buffalo at right, facing off, against the buffalo on the distant wall poster, at left. Taken at the Denver Historical Society Building. The sculpture is called 'On the Wind', & was donated to the people of Colorado, by James J. Volker. The artist was T.D. Kelsey.

"Ten-foot-high bison sculpture by cowboy artist T.D. Kelsey to become a striking addition to the Colorado History Museum plaza. DENVER - A donation from James J. Volker to the people of Colorado will result in a striking new outdoor addition to the Colorado History Museum’s public plaza. On Jan. 5, 2006, the Colorado Historical Society will dedicate On the Wind, a 10-by-13 foot, 3,000-pound bronze North American bison, commissioned from renowned cowboy artist T.D. Kelsey.
Site preparation for 'On the Wind' is currently underway on the plaza’s southwest side, near the corner of 13th Avenue and Broadway. The sculpture was cast at Kelsey’s Montana studio and will be delivered and installed on Jan. 3.
“Because the bison is such a beloved, powerful and distinctly Western animal that dominated the region, On the Wind serves as a poignant reminder of Colorado’s past,” said Georgianna Contiguglia, Colorado Historical Society president. “The sculpture will be a meaningful addition to the Civic Center’s cultural environment.”
Kelsey grew up on a ranch in Montana and spent 21 years in the rodeo. He worked as a commercial pilot until 1979, when he decided to devote full attention to his art. Kelsey’s work can be found in collections, both public and private, all over the world. He currently has sculptures on permanent display at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Champions Museum, the C.M. Russell Museum, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. For more information on Kelsey, visit www.cowboyartistsofamerica.com.
Centrally located in Denver’s Civic Center, the Colorado History Museum features fascinating exhibits, collections, detailed dioramas, historic photographs and artifacts that document and showcase Colorado’s rich past, as well as offers a variety programs for children and adults. thanks for sharing.

Hello Chris,

Yes, I can see what you intended, here. Very thoughtful and perceptive. There are some great aspects: the texture of the bull, the fine lines and angles on the buildings, the shapes and shadows, but for some reason, for me, they do not all come together cohesively. I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it is because the bull's head is not clearly outlined; in which case the dof needed to be narrower. But if you did that, the bull on the shot would not be clear. There is a dilhemma!
Sorry, my friend, for me, it is nearly but not quite, right.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,

good details and colors,
Nice perpective too.
well done.

Hi Chris,

The sculpture of the bison is framing well the building. The diagonal line of the Colorado Historical Society building meeting the vertical line of the other building is giving perspective to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the poster. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Chris,

Good spotting to capture the buffalo facing off. I think the wall poster adds a lot to the overall composition and the linear perspective works well in the chosen POV. The shadows near the front of the sculpture are a little distracting, but one can't always choose the perfect time for a shot like this. Nice work.

Best regards,
Werner

Bonjour Chris.
Impressionnante image de ce gros bison.
Les contrastes et les couleurs chaudes sont parfaits.
La diagonale de la prise de vue donne une bonne profondeur.
Bonne journée.
Urs
