[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of my first self portraits, and was also really unposed. I was setting up the camera and background for documentation photos of my paintings and drawings, and sat down to do a lighting and setting test. There was only a mild intention of a possible good shot out of the entire sitting. This is the result.
I prefer to do even portrait shots in an unposed setting- more "real" more relaxed, more true to the subject.
Again, the black and white choice to not focus on anything but the form and character within the form. I am also a bit broody myself, so....

One of the best self-portraits I've seen for a while.
A really interesting image on so many levels.
Looking forward to seeing much more of your work.
Best wishes, Simon

Super réalisation Psalm, tu nous présentes ici un travail très élaboré …
Le choix du B&W donne un effet d'une très grande qualité graphique …
Bref, un autoportrait hors du commun et pourtant il crie à l'évidence …
Bravo !!!
Antonio

A great pose with a dramatic impact. The smoke adds to the intrigue. That's some pretty serious body art you are sporting. Excellent image. B

Hi Psalm,
Nice portrait. I think it was a good choice for you to go b&w to accentuate form, especially if your tatts are colored. Nice pose...you fill the frame up real well. I do have a suggestion though...it's about the blackness you filled in around you. In my opinion, it's too dark. It made your shorts disappear into it and now, your human form looks disconnected. The edging of where your waist, and legs meet your shorts are gone and they look like your body is just appearing out of nothing. So, I would suggest to go a lighter shade of black, have a gradient transition from your body out, or wear different colored shorts. Still, I like your post...I like the way the smoke is coming out of your nose...it's got mood. For one of the first auto-portraits...you did very well. Great job! And, welcome to TL!
Take care!
Richard

I love this self portrait. There is so much in this "unposed" photograph. Great contrast, details and looooove the tatoos!
