[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A finch feeds on thistle at my back yard feeder. I really like how the background helped to put focus on the bird in this image. The red is a nice contrast from the white and yellow in the birds feathers. Taken from a tripod with an external flash.

John,
I also like the shallow DOF! I am not so sure the unfiltered fill flash helped a "whole bunch" here. It did allow for you to get some good catch light in the eyes but it created quite a glare on the plastic tube feeder. Maybe that was the sun, I don't know. Nevertheless, I like this photo and think you've done a good job placing it in the frame. The majority of the bird is in the top right third, looking down into the bottom left third, it's fairly textbook composition!
