Las Vegas - Hoover Dam

In Black Canyon spanning the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is 726.4 feet from foundation rock to the roadway on the crest of the dam. The towers and ornaments on the parapet rise 40 feet above the crest.

How much does Hoover Dam weigh?
More than 6,600,000 tons.
45,000 pounds per square foot.

Three and one-quarter million cubic yards. There are 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete in the dam, powerplant and appurtenant works. This much concrete would build a monument 100 feet square and 2-1/2 miles high; would rise higher than the 1,250-foot-tall Empire State Building if placed on an ordinary city block; or would pave a standard highway 16 feet wide, from San Francisco to New York City.

Thanks for visiting,
George

Bonjour George.
Une image intéressante qui montre ce grand barrage qui alimente Las Vegas en électricité.
Le paysage tourmenté reflète bien les grand travaux qu’il a fallu faire pour construit cette édifice.
Bonne journée.
Urs

Hi George,
Very clear shot, quite a range of neutral tones. Good job with the balanced exposure, the emerald colour of the water looks appealing. Interesting to see the power-lines going into the distance. Well taken.

TFS,
Scott.

Hello George,

A very sharp and detailed shot of this reknown structure. The clarity is amazing!
Your angled shot makes for good composition, whilst the shadows accentuate the shapes.
This is the sort of shot that would appear alongside an article in National Geographical.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

HI George
This is one place I did visit while in Vegas in the 70s
I don't recall all those electrical pilons but it sure left me impressed.
You did a great job of getting this shot
