Venus, New Mexico
May 1976
A young man I knew growing up in New Mexico.
Looking out on the San Pedro mountains from this hayloft he dreams of becoming a physician, of living in exciting places far from the ranch.
This barn is gone now. Venus, the town his father was born in, and where he was raised, does not exist any more. It is a ghost of a ghost town. It is the name on a street sign in the subdivision that his ranch has become.
Thirty years on, thirty years living away from New Mexico, he dreams of returning to his home, now gone.

About this photo: This was shot on Kodacolor 100. The neg was scanned in with a Nikon coolscan 5000, with very little post processing.
As always, workshops welcome should you have ideas on improving this print.

What a telling capture Karl - your note was very enlightening however the image stands by itself, an unusual but effective composition with just the right amount of exposure on the face.

Dear Karl, hope you are doing good today.Well, I've been surfing your gallery watching each picture and reading every note. And I found all of them very enlightening. It was beautiful to know the stories of unkwown people through your posts and words.Very unusual collections but I must say each picture speaks and I loved that feature. Also I liked the way you narrate stories behind each shot. I would like to see and read more of them in future.
Like many others this is an exceptional shot.Very aplty titled.
Wonderful composition!
Hope you have a day full of smiles and love!
Cheers,
Shubhi:)
