This was taken about an hour and a half after my previous submission. The light was a little brighter on a pretty clear day which is rare.

I wanted a shallow depth on the shot to isolate the rider and the action. I used an 85mm f 1.2. Shot was 1/3200 shutter f 2.8 ISO 50. Camera was on AI Servo to track the focus which doesnt work real well with this lens. The new MKII 85mm does though. I was still able to get the stop action I wanted.

On full sun snow shots I like the Shadow highlight filter to help contain contrast and detail on the snow. I really like the mid tone contrast control. Ususally each image is a little different so I like to adjust to taste on a good calibrated monitor. The Canon's usually a little more than Nikon. Working on Nikon files I usually find I cut the usage back about a third. It also depends on the glass too.

Aside from that and a little digital velvia action and a spot removel from a fleck of dust on the sensor and that was it.

Really good lenses to use aside from this one though is the 85mm f 1.8 that both Canon and Nikon have available at less than $400. Makes for a good portrait lens as well as a mid tele for sports.

I look forward to seeing winter images from others.

Excellent action shot.
Nice POV, love the effects from the snow.

TFS Tracey

I like the way that you have stopped the action here. Don't see to many snowmobiles here. Great DOF and composition, TFS
Leith

Fantastic action shot. Very good timing on your part. Wonderful BG also, the trees, the blue sky. This is all round a very good shot.
Your POV really puts the viewer right in the middle of the action. I really liked all of the notes also. Quite helpful to a person in transition from huh? to I know how to do that..

Hi robert.
A very good shot, like the action:) You stopped it at a decisive moment.
A crop that might work well in this might be a Square crop, it will place the object in a high corner.

Hello Robert,
This is a perfect timing catch with the jump and the position if this snowmobile and the snow flowing under it. The colors and sharpness are perfect to complete it. Very well done.
Luc

Fantastic shot! The exposure is good and you timed the action well. The conditiopns make plannning the shot difficult and you did a fantastic job. Nice work.

Very well done! Only one problem: I think is too much sky witch catches attention; may be a matter of taste…

Hi Robert

Sweet capture. The rider of that snow mobile looks as though he's bursting out of the snow. Colors are vibrant and super sharp.

thanks for your comments on my photo "Amazing Sunrise!" :o)

Hi Robert,
Brilliant intense colours on display here. The action has been frozen perfectly. The big apperture also gives a slightly blurred background which works well here.
Eccellent stuff!
Jako

Hi Robert this is a superb action shot. I do agree with Claudiu about the crop but understand the reason for the original to have the extra space.

Shi.... (Shoes (*_*)) man this is an excellent action shot.

Crisp, Clear, ACTION.

White is white. Those colours are excellent.

Shucks man it is good stuff.

one question....
To get that perfect shot the way you did. There can be no take it over please. So do you find yourself shooting in continous mode often or only in one shot at a time mode?

Hi Robert - Getting such a quick moment right in every respect must be a pro's work. And so it is. Congratulations on a great action shot with its millions of details in focus and the light of the snow so well captured. 1/3000 of a second - ohhh, never heard of such a high shutter speed before. Thank you for sharing this image and for all the technical information in your note! - Cheers, Cordelia :)
PS: Have you been able to sell the image yet?
