[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo was taken on the Pacific Ocean just outside the city of Newport, Oregon. On New Year's Eve day, my family and I took a fishing boat out in the hopes of seeing Gray Whales. We didn't see any Gray Whales but we did experience 20 foot swells and on our way back into the bay this wonderful Sea Lion was perched up on the mile marker buoy as though he were the guard to the entrance and was making sure it was ok for us to pass through. I took many photos of this Sea Lion but chose this one because of the way he was looking out to sea onto the sun about to make it's descent into the ocean. I am amazed and in awe of Mother Nature and am grateful every day that I am allowed to capture her image with my camera. I am truly blessed.

Hi Bettina Marie
Wounder how he got on that buoy? and I guess he is not nervous with human presense. Indeed you are very lucky to be able to capture such a beautiful and rare image of a wild sea lion. Good color contrast with the green and blue and redish brown of the sea lion, great image of how sometimes a man made structure can be used by wildlife.
