[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello My TrekLens Friends:
Here I am  again, with my Unusual Rose Series. This also is from Portland Rose Garden. I decided to call it Black Velvet. The reason is that its leaves were so dark and almost black, but the rose itself had a velvet feel to it as you can see.
The color red was just so beautiful because of its velvety look. Its petals were beautifully arranged.  Due to its darker shade, I took a chance with 1/30 sec. and hand-held. I used the same trick as I had mentioned before; that is, to hold by breath and real still, and rested my elbow on one of my knees. I pressed the shutter release real slow and held it, until the frame clicked shut. The ISO was at 100 and with F/5.00. I bracketed the shot with one under and one over.
In PP work I reduced saturation by 5% and sharpness at 25%. The border is done as before using three layers, and this time I also used Graphic Style Library in Adobe Photoshop just for kicks, and for that fading out design I reduced the opacity on that layer..

David, very beautiful velvety red rose. It looks great against the unique frame with the triangle shapes you've done. I must try the layered frame when I have time. You always give such great detail how you achieve your final work. Thank you. Excellent.

Hi David, I have been browsing through your roses. I love the way that your produced this red I have so many problems with capturing certain shades of red faithfully. Excellent notes all teh way through your rose series especially those on layering which is something this old brain cannot come to grips with. TFS,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Happy Birthday Anneke’. Although the trees may look dead they are quite healthy. The bark on paperbarks can be white but in other types a lovely range of pinks and light browns.
