| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is my first post. I know I'm supposed to critique others first, but I don't feel smart enough yet to criticize the wonderful photos I've seen here.
This photo, to me, symbolizes the teamwork I see in my Air National Guard unit. Several guys are working together get an airplane ready after a major inspection. I love the fact that even though the guy on the right is sitting in an office chair, you can see the motion of his hand showing him working.
I'm still in the "fiddling" stage with Capture NX, but I played with D-lighting, unsharp mask, and then (at the advice of my wife) warmed up the colors a bit. (it started out really blue for some reason)
the harsher your critique, the more I'll learn, so feel free! |

Hi Dave - welcome to Treklens.
Firstly, thanks for writing a note, much appreciated but please don't feel you need to "be smart" to write a critique. Lack of smartness doesn't stop me!
I like the idea of the shot and, like you, I like the blur of the hand. owever, if you don't mind, I'll make a few observations and they are worth waht you've paid for them..
A closer shot of the technicians may have been better - it's difficult to make out many details and the faces are hidden. it's always good to catch faces and expressions, it adds humanity to the shot.
The other thing I'd suggest is to make more use of that yellow line. It stans out nicely and could add more dynamism to the shot. Perhaps if you'd positioned yourself in such a way that the line came across the image diagonally, starting in the bottom right?
Finally, more minor, don;t be afraid to get down low! Maybe a shot from about level height-wise with the wheel would have been interesting.
So..wheel height, more angle and closer to the mechanics. Anyway, those are my thoughts - feel free to ignore them!
But welcome anyway, hope you enjoy the site!
(p.s. final bit of advice....get a Canon!) :-)
Hi Dave,
Welcome to TL. It's great You start with a photo with informative note. About the photo: not bad at all. It shows the teamwork and its spirit perfectly. Next time take the camera a bit down, in order to avoid a halfly cropped wheel, for example. Or, as Richard (Kilted-Arab) said, try to get a closer look on the workers. But as a 1st post, it's quite OK.
Have a nice time here, enjoy the site! Best regards, László
